| By Ward, Doris C. Subtitled: Courtesy of Queen Anne of England. [600 years of Survival and Achievements in Europe, United States and Canada. 1400 - 1700 - 2000] This is the case study of the Nellis/Nelles and Allied Families of the Mohawk River Valley, and Upper Canada (Patriots and Tories). This CD covers more than two hundred years of significant history leading to Palatine Germans hoping for something better, fleeing to England from their homes in Europe in response to Queen Anne's call for settlers along the Hudson River. With the failure of their tar-making project, many of the descendants fled further to the Mohawk River where most of them became patriots as the American Revolution broke out. On the cutting edge of the frontier between America and the British in Quebec, and with no soldiers under General Washington to help defend them, about 800 of these Lutheran and Reformed Church Palatine men fought the bloody Battle of Oriskany which prevented St.Leger of Quebec from joining Burgoyne, resulting later in the capture of all the British forces attacking the north. These stolid unassuming farmers by themselves continued to resist the influence of Sir William Johnson and his activity with the Indians, and to supply General Washington and his troops with wheat and other supplies they needed. with Power Point Viewer included. |
