| By Mary S. Jackson and Edward F. Jackson. Beginning in 1880 in New York State, town clerks began recording vital records, prior to that date, local newspapers were one of the best sources for these vital records. In this new book, containing more than 3,000 entries, the authors have compiled marriage and death notices from eight local newspapers from Seneca County, New York, ranging from 1817 through 1885. The first half of the book contains marriage notices and the second half death notices. Each newspaper has its own section organized chronologically within each. Generally the marriage notices contain the full names of both bride and groom, where each was from, the location of the marriage, and the date of the ceremony. The death notices always contain the date of death or the date of the newspaper. 186 pages, index Paper |
